Terms of use.
The terms you accept by using this website. They cover the site and its writing. A call or a piece of paid work is covered separately by the coaching terms.
Last updated 10 October 2026.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by Dinuka Gunaratne, a sole proprietor practising as Dinukafication, an independent practice separate from any employer. Questions about these terms go to dinukagunaratne@gmail.com.
Accepting these terms
Using this site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
These terms govern the website only. They are not a coaching agreement and they do not create one. Booking a call brings in the coaching terms as well.
What this site is
This site is a personal and educational site. It describes what Dinukafication does, collects writing published elsewhere, and offers a way to book an introductory call.
Everything written here is general information about careers. It is published for a broad audience, it is not advice about your situation, and nobody should treat it as a substitute for advice that takes your own circumstances into account. The disclaimer sets out the limits of the content, and it forms part of these terms.
What you may do
You may read this site, quote briefly from it with credit and a link, and share links to it. You may print or save a page for your own use, or to help someone you are advising.
If you want to use something here more substantially, for teaching, in a workshop, inside an organisation, or anywhere it will be republished, ask first at dinukagunaratne@gmail.com. Permission is usually given, and it is better to ask.
What you may not do
Please do not:
- republish a page or an article here, in whole or substantially, as your own or without credit;
- sell, licence or put this content behind your own paywall;
- remove or alter any credit, byline or copyright notice;
- use the site unlawfully, or in a way that harms, harasses or impersonates anyone;
- try to break, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the site or its hosting;
- scrape the site at a volume that interferes with it, or use its content to train a machine learning model without permission;
- use the Dinukafication name or branding in a way that suggests a connection, sponsorship or endorsement that does not exist.
Intellectual property
The writing, structure, design and name of this site belong to Dinuka Gunaratne, except where something belongs to someone else. Copyright is asserted under the Canadian Copyright Act and the international treaties that go with it.
Several things here are deliberately not claimed:
- Articles listed on the writing page are published by Inside Higher Ed, University Affairs, CareerWise and others. Those pieces are hosted by those publishers, subject to their rights and their terms, and the links lead to them. Several were written with named co-authors, who hold their own rights in that work.
- Work listed as co-authored, and talks or interviews hosted by other organisations, remain subject to the rights of those parties.
- Names, logos and trade marks of other organisations belong to them, and appear here only to identify them.
- The typefaces used are licensed from their designers through Google Fonts.
Nothing on this page grants a licence to any of that third party material.
Links to other sites
This site links out a great deal, to publishers, to a scheduling service and to a newsletter platform.
Those sites are not controlled from here. Linking to one is not an endorsement of it, and no responsibility is accepted for its content, its availability, its terms or how it handles your information. Once you follow a link, that site's terms and privacy policy apply instead of these. The privacy policy names the main ones and links to their notices.
Reading this site does not make you a client
No coaching, advisory or professional relationship starts because you read this site, subscribe to the newsletter or send a message. A relationship starts only when a call or an engagement is actually agreed, on the coaching terms.
Accuracy and availability
The site is kept accurate and current as far as is reasonable. Even so, it is written over time, and careers, hiring practices, programmes and the organisations described here all change. Something here may be out of date or incomplete, and no warranty is given that it is not.
The site is provided as it is and as it is available. There is no promise that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or free of anything harmful. It may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice. Pages may be edited or removed.
Limits on liability
Decisions about your career are yours. To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss or damage arising from the use of this site or from reliance on anything published here, including any loss of opportunity, earnings or profit.
This limit is written to go as far as the law allows, and no further. That matters, because Canadian law does not allow it to go very far:
- consumer protection and sale of goods legislation in several provinces makes some warranties impossible to exclude, and an exclusion that tries to override them is unenforceable to that extent;
- a court will read an exclusion clause narrowly, against the party relying on it;
- nothing here limits liability for fraud, for fraudulent misrepresentation, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have as a consumer under the law of your own province. Where a limit here conflicts with such a right, the right wins.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are to be brought in the courts of British Columbia.
This site can be read from anywhere, and a reader outside British Columbia may have rights under their own local law that this clause cannot remove. A consumer in particular can often insist on the courts and the law of their own home jurisdiction, whatever a clause like this says.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The current version is always the one on this page, with its date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
